Respawn’s hit battle royale, Apex Legends is introducing Valentine’s Day cosmetics as well as a various number of bug fixes in today’s update.
Apex Legends is a lot like most of the battle royale games like PUBG and Fortnite Battle Royale. You drop from the sky onto an island with a quite an amount of people, then you sweep the floor for gear and weapons, and scramble to stay inside a never ending series of ever-shrinking circles pressing of about 60 people towards each other so that the battle gets much more intense. But Apex Legends is also the product of the failures of genre’s so far, a refined and patient response that makes for the most uncompromising and accessible battle royale experience yet.
In a somewhat unusual first ever tournament of Apex Legends battle royale, Team Kings Canyon, composed of yotube and twitch streamers Ninja, King Richard and Dizzy came out on the top of the battle royale match with an iconic score of, brace yourself, 420. Let’s say that they completely blazed it.
The Twitch Rivals tournament today did not pit teams of youtube and twitch streamers and pros against each other, there are no custom game modes in Apex Legends battle royale yet but against the random players in regular matches. It was generally a competitive pubstomp. Over the continuous four hour tournaments (one took place in Europe and the other in North America), each team of three players was awarded one point for each and every kill, and five points for a win. At the end of the day, Kings Canyon had an unbelievable amount of 355 kills and 13 wins (for 65 points), adding up to the total score of 420.
As you would imagine, on this special occasion, Valentine’s Day items and products will only be available for a limited time period until February 19 so you have got just under a week to make the purchase that you want.
A couple of cosmetic items and products are available from the store, a Through the Heart Longbow Epic skin of DMR and a Pathfinder banner frame named as Love the Game. Alternatively, you can also earn a Live Die Live exclusive banner badge by successfully reviving a team member of your squad before next Tuesday.
Bug fixes and tweaks include the removal of an exploit, which allowed you to duplicate various products and multiple items in your inventory, a number of client and server stability problems have been addressed, and improvements to the UI have also been made. You can check out the full patch notes online if you want.
Apex Legends has been out only for a little over a week and in that time it has managed to surpass a mass of 25 million players. A year one roadmap has already been released by respawn, detailing the four Battle Passes that will launch throughout the year of 2019 with coming seasons that will be completely familiar to the Fortnite players.
The game could also be getting Duo and Solo modes according to the data miners and we reported yesterday how the players of Apex Legends discovered the secret monster while playing the Apex Legends battle royale.
Apex Legends battle royale is available now via Origin.
